Ducks and partridges in Santa Fe
Duck hunting takes place along the Parana River, in the Province of Santa Fe, where the delta, the rice fields, and the lagoons come together, making this an authentic paradise for over 20 species of South American ducks.
A typical day starts early, with a breakfast before hunters gather their camouflage gear and waders for the boat ride to their blind. Once ready, hunters and guides head to the selected spot for the morning hunt. Again, hunters arrive early, usually just before day break, led by local guides who know the channels and back waters of the Parana like their own back yards.
If high waters or bird location demands it, we will drive to the best duck concentration in our vans our trucks. Remember our goal is to make your duck hunting trip a memorable, enjoyable, and incredible outdoor experience.
The hunting blinds are built by the guides using natural reeds and bushes from the area. Every blind is located strategically to take advantage of the wind, so that ducks are decoying “in your face”. Hunting goes from sunrise until approximately 09:00 A.M., or until the hunter has his limit. This is usually the case.
The winter hunting season goes from April until mid-August. However, it is possible to hunt waterfowl from November until March on the rice fields. Because of the damage caused by the ducks to this highly-prized, exportable crop, the government has authorized hunting year round. If warm weather hunting, with lots of ducks, is something you would enjoy, this is the place.
In Argentina there are many partridges, called perdiz, in certain areas,
like Santa Fe Province, Córdoba or Santiago del Estero. Partridge
hunting takes place primarily in open pastures or cut alfalfa or cereal
fields.
This is a beautiful form of bird hunting, which, like in the states,
uses pointing dogs to locate and point the birds. English, German and
Wirehaired Pointers, Breton and Braco pointing dogs are used in this
sport. For partridge hunting we recommend 12 or 20 gauge over and under
shotguns.
Without doubt, this is the ideal complementary hunting for dove,
pigeons, or ducks. This allows the hunter a slow, relaxing hunt while
enjoying the Argentine countryside, the beautiful dog work, the
explosive flush and the challenging flight of the partridge.
